The TurboClub RB20 Intake. Nissan Skyline GTS4 AWD

Nissan RB20DET Intake Manifold (149562 bytes) Having done all the work on the intake,   I was pretty used to taking it on and off by now so decided to get stuck into it and remove the complete manifold system to get at ALL the hoses underneath.

I had decided that just to replace the blown one with everything in place may have been possible, but did not account for more blown hoses in the future.

AS the GTS4 is over 10 years old I figured it would be smarter in the long run to do the lot while also doing the Injector swap.

TurboClub Coolant
Air Bleed Chamber to suit TurboClub Intake Manifold.
The standard manifold has a small chamber on the front at the highest point of the motor to allow air to be bled from the cooling system by loosening off a bolt. As the TurboClub Intake has the throttle body on the front with the original bleed removed, a custom unit was fitted to achieve the same result but with the added advantage of a sight glass.

Once I had removed the top half of the manifold it was fairly easy to remove the fuel rail and injectors. I did not guess that it was going to be more trouble than I thought.

The bolts on the intake to head were not to hard to get to, and the main trick was to unbolt a bracket on the firewall end underneath that supported a few hoses on the block.

The problem that no-one mentioned was that the electrical socket is keyed for the RX7 injectors differently to the Nissan RB20 injectors.

This means I also have to get the correct plugs and rewire into the loom. Probably no big deal but something I had not taken into account when everyone said the RX7 injectors were a straight swap.

Now fixed by cutting off the plastic bits!!

FuelRail+Inj.jpg (69281 bytes)

The original Fuel Rail seems to have enough volume and I cant think that it would need to be replaced with are more expensive name item.

Of course after upgrading to 550cc injectors the Air:Fuel ratio was not going to be too correct unless I add more air volume for the same amount of fuel at any RPM point. So what I did was enhance the Air Flow Meter (AFM) orifice to double the standard size here
