Transmission Components
|
The components below and
the explanations are to be updated soon as some
may be not the correct terminology;-) |
|
Main Drum
This drum that is gripped by the Main Band was
extremely worn and scored by the worn band to
the extent that the rivets were doing a lot of
the damage. Will be replaced by a near new drum
that will be drilled with twice as many holes
for more oil flow around the main band. |
 |
Main Band
The main band was extensively worn down to the
metal backing and the rivets holding the
friction material were worn away. The new main
band will be replaced with a new band with a
special Kevlar friction material that should
withstand the extreme heat and clamping force to
be applied. |

|
Clutch packs
The clutch packs were very loose and worn badly
as well as being a low quality of friction
material. All the clutches will be replaced with
high quality friction material to transfer the
power more effectively |

|
Clutch pack gears?
These items will be modified for more fluid flow
in operation by increasing the number of holes. |
 |
Oil
Gallery Valve Body
The valve body has many circuits that control
the operation of the transmission. The valve
balls gate the fluid into many galleries that
determine the shift characteristics of clamping
force and timing to RPM through the gears. The
valve body will be modified to provide a firmer
shift with less slipping on engagement. |
 |
This item will be modified with torrington
roller bearings for more durability. |
 |
Torque
Converter
Rebuilt to higher stall speed - 2800RPM by Phil
Soderstrom, a legend in modifying auto torque
converters for many years in drag racing
circles. |
 |
Exhaust Manifold
The ports have been matched and the turbo has
been extensively modified by ATP. The Centre
housing is new and not roller bearing as
standard. The Comp cover and exhaust have been
machined to suit the new larger wheels with much
more capacity for boost with out problems while
operating in the center of the map. This ensures
lower temps at higher boost than standard. |
 |
I
am not happy about the cast pipe off the back of
the turbo as it is very restrictive around the
wastegate valve area and redirects the exhaust
gases into the main stream hindering the flow
slightly.-
this has now been modified for much more flow
here. |
