Country Cruise's
MELBOURNE Australia - LORNE CRUISE,
Sunday 4th Dec 1994 - By Andrew E. (Proud CORDIA
Turbo Owner)

After carefully watching weather forecasts on the days leading up to 4th December it
appeared we were spared any chances of rain but with a forecast top of 35 degrees engine
powers were going to be down. For the first meeting point at Tooronga Village about eight
cars turned-up. The group then headed down the S.E. Arterial to meet up with the remaining
cars at the West Gate Bridge Shell servo.
The Suzuki Swift club met us at the Shell with a dozen well turned-out cars appearing
right on cue at 11:00 (well organised guys!). The Turbo fraternity assembled by 11:30 with
about 15 cars in total. A special mention to Greg Day for bringing the only unwashed car
on the day (and we sure didn't let him forget it either!).
The group left for Geelong as Greg Campbell videoed our departure. A fast pace was set
early by Peter Philips in his Cordia Turbo, obviously keen to use the 20psi boost on tap.
As expected the West Gate Freeway was busy making it difficult (or a challenge depending
how you look at it!) attempting to keep the group together. We arrived at Geelong by
12:30.

After reassembling at Geelong we left for Anglesea (more video footage care of Greg from
walkway above freeway). The Suzuki's and Turbo's, setting there own agendas, unfortunately
were not seen together on the road. The Turbo's all cruised through Geelong together and
made an impressive site (well at least the red light cameras thought so!). A wrong
turn-off(!) to the Great Ocean Road by the Turbo's led to a delayed arrival at Anglesea
where the Suzuki's had already left for Lorne. The sea breeze at Anglesea was welcome and
kept things cooler (more boost-great!!).
Our run down the Ocean Road was excellent, as no hairy overtaking manoeuvres were required
due the lack of slow traffic. All cars gathered on some vacant land just before Lorne for
lunch. Needless to say after lunch a new gathering spot was needed (who was to know the
first spot was actually private property!). The Suzuki's headed back to Melbourne (Swift -
tell me about it); the Turbo's headed for a new spot. The slow cruise of a dozen turbo's
through Lorne created interest from onlookers and a spot outside Lorne overlooking the
ocean was found. After lining up all the cars some excellent group photos were taken.

By 4:00pm people were ready to make there way home. The trip back, considerably busier
(and slower!) than our trip down, was marred by an accident at Anglesea involving the
front of a nice red JA Starion (who's owner was not a member of the register) and the rear
of an XF Falcon (Lesson one - never f ' ing tailgate anyone, even at 30kmh). The amount of
traffic on the West Gate Freeway made it difficult to keep cars together so we all took
our own routes home.
All present enjoyed the day but for our next cruise the writer thinks more inter-car
communication whilst driving is needed. Now there's a non-poser use for mobile phones if
ever there was one!!
