IS YOUR STOCK TURBO IN GOOD CONDITION?

If not then we can help you by rebuilding it and even upgrading the turbo. Usually this process is well below the cost of buying a new turbo. If your turbo is in good condition we can still rebuild and upgrade it. All rebuilds with or without an upgrade come with a 12 month 12,000 mi. warranty.  

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF YOUR TURBO IS BAD? HOW TO INSPECT THE TURBO FOR DAMAGE Start by removing the hose going from the air mass sensor to the turbo. inspect if for oil. next remove from turbo to intercoller and inspect for oil. If you found oil, the oil seals have gone bad. Now inspect turbo outside for cracks. If you find cracks then the housing needs to be replaced. Next whith the engine off grab the exposed compressor wheel by nut which holds it on the shaft. Lift it upward then downward, then side to side. If there is play then the bearings are bad. If you see damage to the inside surface area and compressor wheel then they will have to be repalced or repaired. If you find any of the above then your turbo need to be rebuilt or replaced. STOCK VS. UPGRADE The stock turbo on the C/S is a TDO5 with a 12A wheel. A very durable & reliable turbo when taken care of and used under normal conditions. The turbo is rated at 320 CFMs @ 15 PSI of boost. Basically this means that when the turbo reaches 15PSI (pounds per square inch) it is moving 320 CFMs (cubic feet per minute) of air. The air is then forced into the cylinders. To give you an idea of the a difference of what an upgraded turbo with the Super 16G wheel will do compared the stock turbo with the 12A. The Super 16G is rated at 550 CFMs @ 15PSI of boost. That is an increase of 230CFMs while still running the same amount of b&127;ost. This is called increased turbo effiency. Basicaly, the objective of the upgrade is to maximize CFMs per PSI of boost to increase the performance of your car without over stressing the turbo.

This is the TDO 5/6 20G. This will flow 650 CMFs @ 15 PSI . It remains as a simple bolt on item since it still uses the stock exhaust housing that the TDO5 uses. No fabrication is needed to bolt this turbo on your car. This turbo can support over 400HP. This means with all the proper high performance parts and a well perpared engine then you could use the TDO5/6-20G at its maximum capabilities. If you chose to go with the 20G as your upgrade turbo keep in mind that you will need to have the correct bolt on items in place before being able to use the 20G as a reliable daily driver. Please take a close look at our package page and note package number 2. It shows all the necessary bolt on items to be able to run a 20G as a daily driver turbo and be able to pump out 15-18 Psi of boost both safely and reliably.

This is a comparison of a 20G (on the left) upgrade to the stock 12A (on the right). You can see the difference in the size of the compressor housing, opening to wheel and the larger wheel in the 20G. The 20G flows more than twice the CFM as the stock turbo. 12A Stock CFM 320@15PSI & 20G CFM 650@15PSI

These wheels are very dificult to photograph and it shoud be pointed out that some of the detail of the 20G wheel got lost. The first picture on the top of this page provides a much better view of the wheel. What you can not see here clearly is that the 20G has a 6 double blade pattern for a total of 12 blades similar to the 16G wheel. The 17C wheel and the 14B are very different because they do not have this pattern. The blades of the 17C and 14B wheel are all evenly spaced apart.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to know the difference between a 20G and a 17C. Many people have been RIPPED OFF by other not so honest rebuilders when they ordered a 20G and instead recived a 17C . You may ask, How did the buyer findout he/she had been taken for a ride?
When you have a 17C wheel you will run just like having a Super16G , so racing a person with a real 20G and they will beat you everytime.
One of our customers has been a victim by another turbo rebuild company. Sorry I cannot say who it was due to the legal recourse that is being taken, so for those who have purchased a 20G in the past from somewhere else please take the time to compare the pics here on this page with what you have. If you have been ripped off then you need to contact the Better Business Buerau and send them a copy of your purchase order stating you purchased a 20G and instead was sold a 17C. This a misrepresentaion of product and if done thruogh the mail it will be a Federal offense called Mail Fraud.

When upgrading a turbo it is vital to your cars engine that you compenstate for the increased air flow by increasing fuel flow. Failure to do so can cause "leaning out" conditions which can destroy your motor A boost compensating fuel pressure regulator can be a very powerful tool to help save the life of your engine and turbo.

  HKS Racing Bypass valve & kit $235.00 This valve is also highly recomended for turbo upgrades running 12-18psi. It relives much of the stress put on the internal parts of the turbo while adding longivity to the turbo.
