Well, only six weeks to go to Christmas! But I suppose everyone has been telling

shopping. But I have, and Ive already brought my presents for a few people. If you
dont have time to shop this year, I have the answer.
I can make up gift baskets/hampers within any price range with about a weeks

PRESIDENTS REPORT
Greetings MMALs
I hope you have all been practicing for the big Go-Kart night on 4th
December. There will be a limit of 20 people who can run (imposed by the track owners),
however, spectators and supporters are more than welcome. Dont forget that this
night will also be the Clubs Annual General Meeting. There will be several vacancies
on the committee to be filled due to various people standing down
It was good to see team MMALCC out in force at the North Eastern Rally, Peter and Kylie
Evans did not have a particularly successful day, despite the best efforts of Dylan Edgar,
their service crew. However, Rob Beekman, fresh from his trip around Australia with the
Playstation Round Australia (one of 1998s best kept secrets) and Sue McCready both
managed to keep their drivers on the right track for 9th and 10th
place respectively. There were no doubt more of you lurking in the forest somewhere who I
didnt catch up with. Needless to say, those quality Mitsubishis (I can say
that, because I own one) came in 1,2 and 3and are running 1 5 in the VRC at the
moment.
The Club is proceeding with a weekend of motorsport early next year at Shepparton. This
will include a motorkhana and sprint at the DECA complex in Shepparton on Saturday and an
Autocross on Sunday at the new Shepparton Car Club track on Sunday. This weekend is
planned for mid February and promises to be a great weekend. Stay tuned for the exact date
and further details.
Six weeks to go till Christmas, can you believe how quick its come around again?
Only 1 more magazine to put out after this one of course and then I can have a break.
Thats not to say that I dont enjoy putting out Taleshaft every
month to you all. Its just that some months I only get a few articles sent to me and
its from the same people. Its not hard. You can write about your experiences
or episodes, whether youre competing or not. If you can put them on a disk for me,
thats great, but of course they can be hand written. Thats not a problem.
Anyway, this month again has details about our Xmas get together for December and as
our President has said will include our Annual General Meeting to elect new/existing
committee members for 1999.
Recipes are again included this month; its great to hear that some of the members
are trying them out.
From the Mitsubishi Web site Ive included specs on the Gr-A Mitsubishi Ralliart
car and also the results of the "Rally SanRemo". Mitsubishi have made their
presence felt once again. Makinen is now only 2 points behind Sainz. What a year its
been for Mitsubishi.
This month our Committee member profile is on Rob Vucur, who is on the General
Committee.
Please note that in order to renew your membership, we now require a new membership
form to be completed with name, address, & date of birth etc, and forwarded to Bill
Bennett. (It doesnt need to be signed.) Every issue of Taleshaft has a membership
form on the last page.
Please contact Bill Bennett to update your membership.
This is a section created for our members, to bring some good cheer to your special
day.
Unfortunately I dont have everyones birth date as yet, so when you renew
your membership, be sure to let Bill Bennett know this information.
Celebrations in November for the following are;
Dale Drinnon Colin Hardinge
Meaghan McNeill Karen Princehorn
We wish you a very Happy Birthday!

Recipes
These 2 recipes were made by Margaret & taste tested by Colin Hardinge. Hope you
enjoy making these. They are for the sweet tooths among you. !
Traditional Pecan Pie
Prepared shortcrust (sweet) pastry to line a 23cm-pie plate.
3 eggs
½ cup sugar
3 tbs melted butter (unsalted)
1 cup maple/golden syrup
1 ½ cups chopped pecans
2 tbs cornflour
Whipped cream & pecan halves to serve.
In a bowl, beat eggs lightly with sugar. Add remaining ingredients and stir well to
combine. (The cornflour will set the filling slightly and form neater slices for serving.)
Pour carefully into pie shell and bake in a preheated moderate 180C oven for about
40-45 mins or until filling is well browned and just set.
Decorate with whipped cream and pecan halves before serving.
NOTE: The flavour of the pie is enhanced if it is made a day or two before serving.
Store in a refrigerator. This recipe is suitable for freezing.
Never-fail fudge
500gm icing sugar
½ cup cocoa powder
125gm butter (unsalted), cut into pieces.
¼ cup milk
½ cup crushed nuts, (any variety)
1 tsp vanilla essence
20x24cm Pyrex dish (approx)
Mix the sugar and cocoa powder in a mixing bowl, as this step may be a little messy.
Transfer to the Pyrex dish and drop the butter onto the mix in several places and pour on
the milk.
Cook in the microwave for 4 minutes on HIGH or until bubbly. Stir a little, then
thoroughly mix in the nuts and vanilla essence.
Spread out smoothly and put into the refrigerator to chill thoroughly. When quite cold,
cut into squares.
Come & join the fun, as we farewell

Secretary/Treasurers
Report
The year of 1998 is nearly over.
The Car Club this year has had a great committee and out members responded to
everything we organised. We had a chocolate drive, ran an Autocross, Mini Golf was a good
night and coming up in December is our Go Karts night. Last year we
didnt make any money, as we had a loss with the Autocross. This year is a very
different story. We made money and have a more interested membership list.
I would like to thank every member that has done something this year on behalf of the
Car Club, entered in an event under MMAL, helped at a Rally or Autocross, been on the
committee and organised anything that has helped the Car Club.
I have been the secretary and treasurer for 4/5 years now and I think its time
that someone else steps in. If you think that you can take the minutes for our monthly
meetings, collect the mail, help the President, do an article for our Mag every now and
then, count & keep the paperwork, well then you can do what I do. Dont be
scared, stand up and say yes I will help out and give the Car Club a new look.
Next year Bill Bennett will be running a two-day, three-event weekend early in 1999. He
will need lots of help and certainly lots of entries. Its going to be a great
weekend!
See you all at our Go Kart night on Friday 4th December. If you
would like to come along, you dont have to drive. Just come and cheer on your
friends. On the other hand if you do want to drive, please call me as we can only have
about 20 drivers.
Once again, thank you to everyone who has helped throughout the year. If anyone has any
questions, please give me a call.
Saturday 17th October 1998. A group of seventy something, of this there
where only 8 ladys. When we arrived, most of the people were already there; Bob
& Paul Thomas, Scott & Kim Morton and the guys, Steve Paps, and the Bloomfield
family. Chris Rayson arrived later, as on the way there he got a flat on the trailer and
of course he didnt have a spare. (He owns a tyre service company!!)
The three of us in the Cortina had fun. It was Dales first time on the track.
Brent & I had seen the track when our car club had its Driver Training Days
there.
At one stage, I was coming 3rd in my class. I thought that this was pretty
cool, as the ladies coming 1st & 2nd were in a 4WD. It was in
the last run that it all changed, and I ended up coming 4th.
The biggest change for the day was the weather. Nice and sunny when we arrived; people
were putting on sunscreen and then the sky changed into a clip from a movie. Dark clouds
with higher clouds moving in fast. In the distance the lightning show started, then it
moved slowly towards us, bringing rain showers, thunder and lightning.
The weather made the last run for everyone very interesting. Drivers where doing
ballerina drives, side to side, front to back and of course 360 turns. Making things even
more interesting for the spectators.
The drive back to Lake Eppalock was great. At one stage we pulled over and videotaped
the lightning show until the hail (size of golf balls) arrived.
The event was well run with everyone enjoying themselves. Congratulations go to the
Bendigo Car Club organising team and to those that came 1st, 2nd
& 3rd in their class.
Next year will be bigger and better with more rounds of the Super Series to be run.
