PRESIDENTS REPORT
Another month is upon us. Since I last put pen to paper, much has happened.
Our Car Club had its Bowls night at Moorabbin. I was very unhappy to only have 8
Car Club members attend. We had a total of 10 players and we all had fun. Adrian Best of
course kept us all amused. Bill & Joan Bennett played closely with only a few pins the
difference. Unfortunately 2 players that were to also come didnt Colin &
Margaret Hardinge. Instead Margaret ended up in hospital on the day. We all wish her a
speedy recovery.
Another event for the month was the VCRS (George Derrick Memorial Trial) on 24th
April. Sue Evans & Brent McNeill were in their Suzuki, and Adrian Best & Glen
Dodds in their Stanza. We had more members at the rally, which was good. Chris Rayson was
selling tyres at the event. Karen Princehorn was servicing for Adrian with her team of
helpers. Simon Evans & myself were servicing for our partners. Adrian unfortunately
didnt finish. He came into the 1st service with a broken rear-trailing
arm, so he didnt go on.
The Strzelecki Rally was held on the 1st May and one of our members, Chris
Rayson ran, and finished the event.
The Car Club was going to run an event at Decca (Shepparton), but at this stage it
looks like Decca is booked out on the weekends that the Car Club is free.
Our AutoCross (2nd October) is coming up soon. If anyone can help,
please give Brent McNeill a call on 0414 915 409. We will need some officials for the day.
Rally is Canberra is happening & we will be going to cheer Simon & Sue Evans
on. This year they are in their VWs. It will be the 1st time, we will see
it in action.
Read further into your mag for the full story on Canberra.
Our Shepparton weekend has now had to be cancelled, as we couldnt get a suitable
date. We will now make it an event for 2000. Stay tuned, for more information as it comes
to hand.
From the Mitsubishi Web site, Ive included details of the "Rally of
Spain" & also "Rally of France".
Our Committee member profile this month is Glen Dodds, our VCRS Delegate.
Bill Bennett has written 2 articles one on Autocrosses held at Deniliquin and the other
titled "The Adventures of Des& Bill" at Condobolin. (a Cross
Country Rally)

As most of you will not be aware, I am a member of the D.S.C.C. and as their delegate
to the Victorian State Council of CAMS. Since I had not been up there for a while, I went
for a visit and made sure that they had an AutoCross on at the same time.
The track is one of the best around. You can take a standard car and compete in it and
be reasonably successful, as I did with my Falcon Longreach Utility. The only change was
that I put PEDDERS BIG BORE shocks on it.
Providing you and the car have the appropriate mandatory safety equipment, be a member
of a car club and have a minimum of a Level 3 CAMS Licence, you can have a great day of
fun.
I ended up 22nd on the day, which was middle of the field as there was 43
entries. We had 1 practice and 4 timed runs. Each run was 1 standing and 1 flying lap,
with a quarter of a lap slow down. So at the end of the day you got your monies worth. The
day finishes around 3-30pm. Enough time to get back to Melbourne at a very respectable
time of the day, as its only 3-½ hours drive time.
The club has on-site camping facilities, so if you want to go up on the Saturday
afternoon, you can camp that night and compete on the Sunday. They also have on-site
running water & toilets and while the competition is on there is food & drinks
available.
The dates for further AutoCrosses are 23rd May, 22nd August and
26th September 1999. So if any Car Club member is interested in going to
Deniliquin for a blast, ring Dean at Agspares on 03 5881 1255 during B.H. and he will be
happy to take your entry.

20 Deep Thoughts .
1. Can vegetarians eat animal crackers?
2. If man evolved from apes, why do we still have apes?
3. I went to a Bookstore and asked the saleswoman where the Self-Help section was, she
said if she told me it would defeat the purpose.
4. Should crematoriums give discounts for burn victims?
5. If a mute kid swears, does his mother wash his hands with soap?
6. And whose cruel idea was it to put an "S" in the word "Lisp"?
7. If a man stands in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to
hear him Is he still wrong?
8. If someone with multiple personalities threatens suicide . Is it considered a
hostage situation?
9. Is there another word for synonym?
10. Isnt it scary that doctors call what they do "practice"?
11. Where do forest rangers go to get away form it all?
12. What should you do if you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?
13. If a parsley farmer is sued, do they garnish his wages?
14. Would a wingless fly be called a walk?
15. Is a shellless turtle homeless or just naked?
16. Is it true the cannibals wont eat clowns because they taste funny?
17. Why do they put Braille on the drive through Bank machines?
18. Why do they use sterilised needles for lethal injections?
19. Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
20. What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?
1999 FAI RALLY OF CANBERRA
A seven-hour drive, are we crazy or what? No! The reason for us to go to this Rally was
for own MMAL Evans family. Yes! Simon & Sue Evans in their VW Golf.
The three-day event was the event Sue & Simon needed. They were 6th
overall & 1st in their class. Two full days of spectating was great fun.
Seeing world cars was different. I must say Simon & Sue are up there with the best.
Saturday we were able to view 3 spectator points, and go back into town ½ way through
the event & back out of the forest without missing any of it.
Canberra, what a great place for a Rally. Great video spots & photo spots. The
spectator guide made it easy for most to see where the cars would travel alongside the
highway. This made for extra spectator points.
Sunday we went to 2 forest points and the special stage (Epic) at the showgrounds. The
Epic was used on Friday & Saturday nights and it was the final stage on Sunday.
Saturday night at the Epic centre, there were fireworks, off road buggies, Rick Bates
Vs a Commodore, Motocross bikes & more. The commentating was good for Sue &
Simon, making the spectators go crazy when they came onto the track and of course Simon
didnt let them down with a crowd pleasing manoeuvre.
From our Car Club there were 7 members. The next ARC is in Queensland. We wont be
going to this one, but I think we will wait for the Rally of Melbourne.
The times were good for everyone.
