UNDERNEATH THE EDITOR’S CAP

Another month rolls along and I’m still at home nursing my injured knee. It’s been 9 weeks now that I fell and I’m looking forward to going back to work soon. Oh well things happen!

I’ve included a word puzzle in this month’s issue. See if you can work it out. You can win a MMAL T-shirt.

From the Mitsubishi Web site, I’ve included details of the "Rally Argentina" & also the points so far for the 1999 FAI World Rally Championship.

Adrian Best has once again put pen to paper and written another "Wired World of Sports" article. It’s great reading. I’ve also included details from CAMS on ‘Sprints, Hillclimbs & other Speed Events’.

Are you interested in having you’re racecar details (including photos) published on the Internet at our Web Site? Please contact Greg Campbell, who has set up a page on his Turbo Club Web Site. www.turboclub.com. Our magazine also features on the Internet at www.turboclub.com/ClubsRegister/MMAL Thanks go to Greg for providing this service to our Car Club.

Jokes

‘Paddy’, said the farmer, ‘go out and see if it’s raining.’ ‘Aw, Da,’ answered his son, can’t you call in the dog and see if it’s wet?’

An old drunk staggers up to a young bloke whose head is under the open bonnet of a car.

‘What’s wrong?’

‘Piston broke.’

‘Me too.’

‘Can you give me a lift into town?’ asked a bloke leading a cow.

‘Yeah, I can give you a lift,’ said the motorist, ‘but what about your cow?’

‘No worries. She’ll just follow along.’

So off they went, with the motorist checking in his rear-vision mirror. To his astonishment the cow broke into a trot. They accelerated to 80 km/h but the cow was still there, galloping along like a thoroughbred.

‘Amazing,’ the motorist muttered, accelerating to 90 … 100. And the cow was still there, thundering along.

When he got to 120 the motorist took another decko in the rear-vision mirror. ‘I don’t like the look of your cow, mate,’ he said to the passenger. ‘Her tongue’s flopping out the side of her mouth.’

‘No worries,’ said the bloke, ‘that just means she’s going to overtake.’

Why did the wombat cross the road?

To see his flat mate.

Have a go at this puzzle and see if you can find the answer?

The first person to call the Editor will win a MMAL T-shirt.

The answer will be in the July edition of Taleshaft.

The Amazing Flying Turtle

Deep within a forest, a little turtle began to climb a tree. After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground.

After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground. The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts. Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.

"Dear," she chirped, "I think it’s time to tell him he’s adopted."

"WIRED WORLD OF SPORTs"

Good afternoon, and welcome to another addition of "Wired World of Sports". Today’s day of Motor Sport takes us all the way down to sunny Maffra for Round 4 of the Victorian Autocross Series. And joining us now is of course the Guru of Motorsport, dreaming and spectating our one & only Maxy Walker.

Over to you Max.

Max: Yeees welcome back and that’s right. I’m all the way down here in sunny Maffra. Mind you I got lost 3 times getting here, but from how the day has been, it’s been worth it.

We’ve seen plenty of spills. All being Ford Escorts for some reason, with 4 Escorts rolling they’re just about extinct! But unfortunately one roll over was one of MMAL’s own. It was Peter Bloomfield in the Lancer. But being their last run made it a bit better I think, I don’t know. But I’ve chased up one of the nuts from MMAL, the old faithful Adrian Best!

So Adrian, how’s it all going?

Adrian: Yeah, it’s been a top day so far. It’s been good to see some entries from our own Car Club. With Chris Rayson in the all metal, and Andy Black trying hard to destroy it. Chris himself just trying. The Bloomfields in the Lancer which went roof skidding, thanks to Uncle Pete. Adam & Alan had a good day until then. And of course "Team George" (The Coke Can Weapon) driven into the loop wall by Karen Princehorn and around the track by myself, Peter Dennis & Marty Scott. So George has been a busy car!

Max: Yeees, so what’s the deal with these unstable Escorts?

Adrian: I’m not sure Max, but it’s added some excitement to the day.

Max: Yeees, that thing of Chris Rayson’s sounds like it’s got more grunt than a barn full of pigs!

Adrian: Yes Max, it’s got more poke than a horny dog, but I think if Chris took his nappy off he’d be more than 1 or 2 seconds in front of me.

Max: Well thanks once again Adrian for your time and talks.

Adrian: No worries Max, we’ll see you again soon mate.

Max: Well there we have it boys, if I had the time and a Nissan something I’d be out there with ‘em. Cause I must admit it’s the best fun these clowns have ever had with clothes on. Hoo Roo !

      Recipes

      There’s a quick dinner.

      Pumpkin Soup (Microwave)

1 Kg pumpkin, peeled & chopped

      2 small onions

      1 cup chicken stock

      1 cup cream

      Nutmeg

      Salt/pepper to taste

Place pumpkin, onion and stock in a large bowl. Cover and cook on HIGH of 15 minutes. Place into a blender or processor and blend until smooth. Transfer to a serving bowl and stir in cream, nutmeg and season to taste.

Veal Scallopine with Mixed Mushroom Sauce

Makes approx. 4 portions Preparation time. 25 minutes

      Mushrooms (500gm Button, 500gm Oyster & 500gm Shitake)

      100 gm butter

      50 ml olive oil

      2 onions, diced

      200 ml dry white wine

      20 gm fresh garlic

      375 ml beef stock

      200 ml cream

50 gm fresh chopped Sage or Basil

      12 (80/100gm) Veal Scallopine

      flour for veal

Sweat off onions in oil and butter. Add garlic and cook until onions are glazey, then add mushrooms and cook them until all the liquid that they drop is evaporated. Brown them slightly, then deglaze the pan with the white wine. Cook out for 5 minutes, then add beef stock and cream, and reduce until a sauce consistency is obtained. Check seasoning.

To cook the veal, flour the pieces and seal in a hot saucepan. Deglaze with wine, sprinkle with sage/basil and add the mushroom sauce.

      Chocolate Truffles

      1 can sweetened condensed milk

      2 cups crushed sweet biscuits

      1 cup coconut

      2 tbs cocoa

      coconut, extra

Mix the biscuits, cocoa & coconut and mix well with sweetened condensed milk. Roll into balls the size of a walnut. Roll in coconut. Put into fridge for about 1 hr to cool.
