PRESIDENT’S REPORT
1999 has started. A New Year, a new
president. You have all known me as the
Secretary/Treasurer for MMAL for the past 5
years. I hope this year brings new members,
new events and some of our older members out
of the woodwork.
Our Club had organised a 2 day event
weekend, which was going to run in February.
UNFORTUNATELY we didn’t get enough entries by
the Monday before the event so Bill and the
committee cancelled the weekend. It has been
postponed until later in the year. I hope for
the next date we will get a lot more entries
and help from our Car Club members. So
everyone, please keep your eyes on the date
for this years events.
{Thank goodness for the postponement, if you
were like me and could not make it at the
first try, nows our chance to have another
opportunity. Go for IT!! GJC -Webster}
One of our Car Club teams had some very
exciting cargo arrive last week. Yes! Evans
Motorsport have now got their 2 VW GOLF, F2,
Rally Cars. Now they just have to get the
paint scheme done and then it’s off to Coffs
Harbour. We all wish them well for every event
this year.
On Saturday 20th Feb. Monash Uni
ran the "Bog-A-Duck". We had 3 entries from
MMAL. Chris Rayson in his Torana with new
co-driver Gary, unfortunately they rolled. But
all is well and not too damaged. Sue Evans and
Brent McNeill in the Pulsar, but the car
didn’t want to go anymore. (A few problems
under the bonnet)
As most of you know by now, there was a
very unfortunate accident. Which ended the
life of a good friend to most in the Vic Rally
scene. Our condolences go to Steve Poore’s
family, team mates and friends. He will be
missed by all.
Unfortunately we had to postpone our
"Weekend of Motorsport" due to the very
limited number of entries that were received.
Stay posted for the date. It was very
disappointing, as this would have been a first
time event.
From the Mitsubishi Web site, I’ve included
details of the "Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo"
& also "The International Swedish Rally", the
first 2 rounds for 1999. Mitsubishi have done
well again!. This goes without saying. Let’s
hope that Mitsubishi have another great year.
This month’s recipes are a couple of slices
you might like to try. Are there any other
recipes you’d like, ie dinner party meal or
picnic ideas. Let me know, I can include on
this page for you.
I’ve decided to continue with Committee
member profiles this year, just so that you
could meet our new members that you may not
know much about. This month our Committee
member profile is on Joan Bennett, you’re new
Treasurer.

Internet, this fine publication can be found

PROFILE - Committee Members
This Month: "Joan Bennett" -
Treasurer
Name: Joan Bennett
Marital Status: Married (25 years) with
2 daughters
Occupation: Originally was a software
programmer, then home duties for several years
whilst golfing & tennising. Then returned as
Company Secretary to Pedder Frankston,
Tattslotto operater & Office Manager for a

How long have you been involved with
Motorsport?
Have been involved since I got married to
Bill Bennett. Actively involved for several
years when I rallied (as a navigator) with
Jean Jones. Also Motorkhana-ed during these
years.
What jobs have you done?
Over the years, I have been Secretary to
the C.O.C.C.V. and committee member many times
when it became MMAL Car Club. Directed a rally
and organised several touring assemblies.
What have you enjoyed doing the most?
I enjoyed navigating 20 years ago, and
Motorkhanas on bitumen in my Moke.
Is there anything you’d still like to do?
In relation to Motorsport, No. Personally,
I would like to travel overseas.
Any suggestions on how to improve the Car
Club?
There should be more social nights that
involve Motorsport. Eg. Go-carts, 2 day
touring assemblies and Driver Education
events.
Recipes
These recipes have been tried out on Colin
Hardinge and he lived to tell the tale!
Mix all together well, press into a slice
tin lined with foil and refrigerate.
Topping
200gm bar of chocolate with brazil nuts,
hazelnuts or almonds
60gm copha
Melt together and pour over the slice after
it has set a little. When set, cut into small
squares.
Very rich !
Chewy Pecan Bars
Base
Topping
1 ½ cups plain flour 200gm Milk
Melts
½ cup icing sugar 400gm can sweetened
condensed milk
125gm butter, softened 2 eggs
100gm White Chocolate Melts, melted 3 tbs
plain flour
2 cups pecans (whole or roughly chopped)
Preheat oven to 180C. Grease and line a
28cm x 18cm lamington tray with non-stick
baking paper. Using an electric mixer combine
plain flour, icing sugar, butter and White
Melts until well combined.
Press into the base of prepared tin. Bake
15 minutes or until light golden in colour.
Cool slightly. In a small saucepan, combine
Milk Melts and condensed milk, stir over
medium heat and cool slightly. Stir in eggs,
flour and pecans.
Pour pecan mixture over the base. Reduce
oven to 160C and bake a further 30 minutes or
until cooked when tested with a skewer
(mixture maybe a little soft but will firm on
cooling).
Refrigerate 3-4 hours before cutting into
squares.
