Skoda Fabia Super 2000 successful tarmac test by Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz tested Fabia Super 2000
6/11/2008
Jan Kopecký, Raimund Baumschlager and Carlos Sainz involved as Škoda Auto carries on with its Fabia Super 2000 test programme. The successful tarmac test recently took place in Austria.
Besides experienced test drivers Jan Kopecký and Raimund Baumschlager, the team recently testing the competition version of the Fabia Super 2000 in Austria included two times world champion Carlos Sainz.

The Volkswagen factory driver won the Central European Rally with a Race Touareg this year in April and contributed to the double success of the new Scirocco in its class at the 24-hour race in Nürnburgring a few days ago.

The test was not Sainz’s first experience of driving a Škoda – the Spanish driver won the Shalymar Rally (near Madrid) with a Fabia in the autumn of last year, and so he felt like trying out the new version of the Fabia Super 2000. “I have got to know the Škoda Fabia really well, and I can see a huge step forward as far as the development of the competition version is concerned“, said Sainz, authorised to take part in this test by Volkswagen Motor Sport Department Director Kris Nissen.

A number of big names of motor sport attended the test rides of the new Škoda Fabia Super 2000 in order to check the project progress, including Hans-Joachim Stuck of the Volkswagen Motor Sport Department.

Commenting on the project, Dr. Eckhard Scholz, Škoda Auto BOD Member responsible for technological development, said: “The involvement of experienced competitors such as Carlos Sainz and Hans-Joachim Stuck highlights the importance the Volkswagen Group attributes to Škoda’s motor sport initiatives and gives valuable stimuli to the development of the new Fabia Super 2000.“

Škoda Auto at International Motor Show in Delhi

7 August 2008 · posted by Staff

1/8/2008
For the first time Škoda Auto is going to present the new Fabia at the International Motor Show in Delhi.

The Company’s event presentation portfolio also includes the new Octavia, the Octavia Tour and the Superb, which are already available in the Indian market. Altogether seven Škoda Fabia models are going to be displayed at Škoda Auto’s exhibition stand, including the highly attractive “Sport Styling Kit” and the environmentally friendly GreenLine TDI.

The Octavia is going to be presented through two of the available equipment levels, the Ambiente and the top-end Laurin & Klement, the Octavia Tour will be showcased in the Ambiente and Elegance versions. The brand’s presentation will also include the Superb, a vehicle that has built a very good position in the Indian market.

All Škoda vehicles sold in India are equipped with driver and passenger airbags, an immobiliser, power steering, air conditioning and central locking (except for the basic version of the Fabia line). The standard equipment level for the Fabia, Octavia and Superb lines includes a Škoda audio system with a CD & MP3 player.

The new Fabia designed for the Indian market will be available with two petrol engines (three-cylinder
1.2 12V HTP/51 kW and four-cylinder 1.4 16V/63 kW) and one turbocharged diesel three-cylinder unit
(1.4 TDI PD/51 kW) with a five-speed manual transmission. The engine and transmission portfolio for the other model lines available in the Indian market will remain unchanged.

The Škoda Roomster, the Octavia RS and the Octavia Scout will not yet be presented in India this time. Škoda Auto’s presentation portfolio demonstrates the Company’s top-class competences in the segments of compact vehicles, family MPVs, big comfortable sedans, as well as dynamic cars.

Škoda has sold over 49,000 vehicles in the Indian market since 2001 when it set up its presence there. Škoda India has a network of 54 dealerships, and the current production capacity of the assembly plant in Aurangabad (300,000 m2) is 30,000 vehicles/year.
